Shinglemill Creek Trail, Vashon Island, Washington
Shinglemill Creek is 3.5 miles long and flows from Fisher Pond to the Salish Sea at Fern Cove. It is one of several small creeks on Vashon Island that welcome spawning salmon (chinook, chum, etc.).
From the beach at Fern Cove the main trail heads southeast along the creek and then rises above in a typical maritime northwest forest. About half way along, there is a newer "Bill's Trail" that cuts through the forest heading north.
If you stay on the main trail, eventually you end up at the remnants of an old orchard. There is a paved loop around the orchard which can accommodate folks with limited mobility.
